Bicycle Day commemorates on April 19, 1943, when Swiss Chemist Dr. Albert Hofmann first took LSD intentionally. Three days earlier, he had absorbed a small amount of LSD either through his fingertips or by accidentally ingesting it. Albert describes in his book LSD: My Problem Child that he “sank into a not unpleasant intoxicated-like condition, characterized by an extremely stimulated imagination." Intrigued by his prior experience, Albert decided to go back to his lab and drop acid again, this time on purpose. On Bicycle Day, he took 250 µg of LSD and, fearing he had made himself ill, cycled home from his lab. During his bicycle ride he experienced the extreme effect of LSD, which became more intense when he got home. After feeling his life may be over he finally started to relax and enjoy his trip. Albert woke up the next day feeling better then ever.
